Ross Chastain learning to handle role as villain as NASCAR heads to Darlington

DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Ross Chastain thinks things went too far last week in punching Noah Gragson in the pits at Kansas. However, the NASCAR points leader says he feels more comfortable in his growing role as the Cup series’ reigning bad boy.Gragson confronted Chastain after a late-race incident and took a punch from Chastain before personnel broke it up.“I feel security stepped in about 10 seconds too quick,” Kyle Busch said Saturday.Expect blood pressure to rise this weekend at Darlington Raceway, where the Goodyear 400 takes place Sunday. The track “Too Tough To Tame” has traditionally gotten drivers sideways both during and after the checkered flag waves.Chastain would prefer to talk out issues with rival drivers, but he stood by his actions at Kansas.“I’m not saying that every time in a little bit different situation (I’m) going to react like that,” he said. “I want to talk to guys and have conversations, but last week was too far.”Chastain will s...

Eze scores both as Crystal Palace blank Bournemouth in EPL

LONDON (AP) — Eberechi Eze’s double highlighted Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday. Both teams have already avoided the drop, and Palace remained 12th in the standings, four points above Bournemouth.Eze fired Palace ahead late in the first half in a move sparked by Wilfried Zaha and involving Jordan Ayew.Eze bagged his second in the 58th, a solo effort that saw him collect the ball from Michael Olise on the left before a mazy run through the center put him in position to fire his 10th of the season into the top right. It was not all good news for Roy Hodgson’s hosts, who saw Zaha forced off after the break when he pulled up limping. Zaha only recently recovered from a hamstring injury.Zaha, out of contract at the end of this campaign, was treated to a rousing chant by the home support, possibly wondering if this would be the last time they would watch him walk off the pitch in a Palace shirt.___More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/h...

A Leeds fan was arrested and handed a lifetime ban by the club after shoving Newcastle manager Eddie Howe during their English Premier League game on Saturday.Howe didn’t appear to be hurt in the incident in the third minute of stoppage time in an emotionally charged 2-2 draw at Elland Road.“He confronted me, he said something that I can’t repeat, then he’s led away,” Howe said.“I’m OK. Moments like that do make you think — the safety of staff and players is paramount for me at any matches in the Premier League and Football League. We need to be mindful, security is so important.”The spectator trespassed into the technical area and initially grabbed Howe by his left arm, then jabbed at him and pushed him high in the chest. Stefan Bondy: Knicks have to face uncomfortable realities with Julius Randle after disappointing playoff run

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:28:03 GMT

MIAMI — It’s hard to believe but we’re back here with Julius Randle. Even after his redemptive season. Even after his All-Star appearance and All-NBA selection, we’re back to a year ago: a time of pressing questions about whether Randle was equipped for this city, and whether the Knicks are better off shipping the power forward elsewhere because there’s no reconciling the franchise’s bright lights and loudly critical fanbase with such a sensitive personality. Randle’s playoffs, to put it mildly, were a disaster. He shot 37%. He accumulated about as many turnovers as assists. Against Miami, he met an All-World defender in Bam Adebayo, couldn’t move him in the post, and crumbled. You can’t go from averaging 25 points in the regular season to 16 in the playoffs without disappointment attached to the evaluation. Yet Randle, who has never been eager to accept his shortcomings, was very forgiving. “Same thing ...
